Biography

As Tax Advisory Managing Partner for New Zealand, Jarod leads a team of dedicated professionals specialising in all areas of tax, with a particular emphasis on owner managed/high networth individuals.

Jarod has worked for a number of Big 4 firms in both Dunedin and Sydney before joining the Findex tax team in Dunedin (formerly Taylor McLachlan Limited) in 2004. He also has experience in working as a management accountant for a couple of large corporates.

Jarod enjoys assisting entrepreneurial clients in achieving practical/commercial outcomes in all areas of their business. Jarod has experience in providing advice in most areas of tax to a wide range of clients ranging from passive investors to major corporates. He also provides tax support to a number of accounting firms.

Jarod regularly presents to lawyers and accountants and the wider public on various tax topics ranging from cross border taxation to business sales.

Biography

Matthew was born and raised in Central Otago and educated at the University of Canterbury. He has over 30 years’ experience working in Dunedin and the South Island as an accountant and business advisor, specialising in manufacturing, the wider construction industry, property and turnarounds of businesses in distress, acquisitions and divestures.

Today, he is responsible for shaping and delivering the strategic direction of the region which spans multiple geographical locations throughout New Zealand.

Phil has over 25 years assurance experience. Phil is primarily involved in the provision of assurance related services, ranging from financial statement audits to internal audit assignments. He is also an Approved Auditor for the Office of the Auditor-General for public sector financial statement audits. Phil currently oversees the provision of internal audit services to a number of public sector and corporate clients.

Scott is a Senior Partner in the Specialist Tax Advisory team, having practiced in the owner managed High Net Wealth Individual market for over 30 years. He also has a significant presence in the early stages of company ecosystems as an adviser, governor and investor. Scott is an Independent Director of several companies, a trained mediator, and has been the deputy chair of the Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CAANZ) Tax Advisory Group for two years.

Shaun is a key Partner in our Accounting and Business Advisory team based in Dunedin, with clients spread across the wider Otago region. Born and raised in the Otago region, Shaun takes great pride in working with the local business owners to assist them in achieving their goals. Shaun prides himself on 'partnering' with his clients and offers practical, commercial focused advice delivered in a concise manner. Shaun has a wide range of clients operating in a number of industries. He has also developed some particularly strong relationships in the trades and sub-trades area including construction, engineering, plumbing, electrical and has a strong understanding of the drivers of success in these areas.

Jimmy’s skills as a Partner are regularly used by all the Findex Otago offices and he is well known by clients across our Oamaru, Dunedin and Milton offices. He has many years’ experience in the agribusiness and commercial sectors. Jimmy enjoys working with and providing advice to a wide range of clients. His specialty areas include budgeting and forecasting, succession planning, business start-ups, and accounting systems.

Greg joined Findex after 29 years working in General Insurance (New Zealand, United Kingdom, Papau New Guinea & Solomon Islands) and Personal Risk Insurance with TOWER Health & Life, a large Dunedin based adviser firm, and most recently Lifetime Group.

Having worked on both sides of the fence (as an adviser and insurer), Greg clearly understands the best way to achieve excellent outcomes for clients whether it be at the application stage or at claim time. His in-depth knowledge and experience makes the process smooth and painless and most importantly, tailoring a solution from the simple to the complex.

He has the National Certificate (Level 5) in Insurance Advice and Investment Advice but has chosen to focus as a Risk Insurance Specialist.

Jeff is an experienced management consultant, who is passionate about business improvement and finding innovative strategies to assist SMEs develop a clear picture of their future and overcome challenges.

Jeff is a Chartered Accountant and Chartered Member of the Institute of Directors with considerable experience in areas including strategy development, leadership and culture, innovation, advisory boards, organisational review and governance.

Jeff is a Partner in our Accounting and Business Advisory Team and is based in our Dunedin office. He is a Chartered Accountant with his own business experience. Jeff was born and raised in Dunedin and attended Otago University.

Jeff enjoys working with entrepreneurs and business owners to help manage their business finances and improve their operations. Jeff works with clients on a daily basis in the areas of profit improvement, growth and expansion, cashflow management, cashflow forecasting, management reporting, business acquisitions and all areas of IRD compliance including annual financial statements and tax returns, GST returns and tax management.

Jeff's passions outside of work include negotiating business deals, surfing, mountain biking and traveling with my family and friends.

Joseph is a consultant in our Accounting and Business Advisory team. With a degree in psychology, and qualifications in business management and continuous improvement, Joe is able to assist clients with a broad range of health and safety matters.

With over twelve years’ experience in leadership roles in manufacturing and printing industries, and hands on experience with health and safety and continuous improvement, Joseph prides himself in offering practical advice and solutions.

Lee has over 25 years’ experience in the insurance industry including 22 years as an Insurance Broker.

Lee has experience in all aspects of commercial insurance advice, risk evaluations and audits, insurance programme assembly, tendering, negotiation and placement as well as claims management.

As a Partner in the Business Advisory team, Michael works with a broad range of businesses across the Otago region with the focus to help them grow and thrive in their industries.

Michael has expert knowledge in digital solutions and helping business owners setup, integrate and streamline their operations. He can help manage any milestone of a business from the initial purchase or start up, cashflow and tax planning, bank lending, phases of growth, succession planning and business sale.

Michael is an Associate Partner in the Accounting and Business Advisory Team. Michael joined Findex as a graduate in 2015, and since that time he has dealt with and learned extensively from a wide variety of clients and industries, including start-ups, charities, manufacturers, IT developers, retailers, and large family groups.

Outside of work, Michael enjoys travelling, hiking, mountain biking, and assisting with a role on the Board of Trustees and Finance Committee for Carisbrook School.

Nick is an experienced taxation practitioner having advised a broad range of clients since 2000. Nick has worked for Big 4 firms in both London and Dunedin and joined the Findex team in October 2021. Nick enjoys providing practical and commercial taxation advice to all kinds of clients from individuals through to large corporates and has a particular interest in corporate and international taxation, land taxation and the investment industry.

Biography

Stephen began his career in Tax advisory with a Findex predecessor firm in 1999. He subsequently worked as a commercial and property lawyer, and then as part of the tax advisory team of a Big 4 Firm, before re-joining the Findex tax advisory team in 2014.

Stephen advises clients ranging from individuals and family owned businesses through to large corporates and listed companies on all aspects of New Zealand tax law. Stephen has specialist experience in advising on business structures, cross-border and international tax structures, taxation of land transactions, managing complex tax disputes and obtaining binding rulings. He also has an interest in tax policy and tax law reform and can assist clients submitting on and lobbying in relation to the impact of tax changes on their business.

With over 20 years tax advisory experience Stephen is a sought-after speaker on tax topics, including presenting training courses for CCH, CAANZ, and TEO Training. Stephen lectures in taxation practice at the University of Otago.

Biography

Steve joined Findex in April 2018 as a Tax Advisory Manager and provides practical taxation advice on a wide range of tax issues. Prior to moving to a Specialist Tax Advisory role, he acquired 15 years of accounting and business advisory experience across an extensive range of clients and a broad range of sectors. This allows him to understand complex issues and outcomes from both a taxation perspective and an accounting/business perspective. Steve has a particular interest in agribusiness and enjoys working on the unique challenges associated with the sector. He successfully completed the Kellogg Rural Leadership Programme (Cohort K49) in 2023. While based in Dunedin, Steve provides specialist taxation support to a number of Findex offices around New Zealand.
